Philipp Englin joined World Steel Dynamics in 2008 after a career spanning roles in Engineering and Corporate Strategy functions.  Philipp worked closely with WSD’s Founders as CEO for over a decade, before taking over WSD’s day to day operations.

Along with WSD’s highly capable team of Senior Practitioners and Analysts, Philipp authors WSD’s breakthrough Information Service reports while leading efforts across the full range of WSD products and services from our Consulting/Advisory practice to WSD’s premier industry conferences.  Mr. Englin holds bachelors degrees in mechanical engineering & philosophy from Carnegie Mellon University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh.

John Lichtenstein recently joined World Steel Dynamics as managing partner. He brings more than 35 years of experience as an industry thought leader, trusted advisor, and global consulting practice leader at Accenture, Arthur D. Little and RCG Research and Consulting Group. Lichtenstein has had a long association with World Steel Dynamics. He has been a featured speaker at numerous Steel Success Strategies Conferences, where he addressed a wide range of topics including mergers and acquisitions, business transformation and technology, and organization and leadership.

Adam leads WSD’s industry and economic research in support of WSD’s Information Service, the GSIS, and consulting studies.

With over 13 years of experience in both industry research and in corporate strategy functions, Adam has developed extensive strategic research studies for key investments in the global steel industry. Additionally, Adam has played a critical role in the development of World Steel Dynamics’ Global Steel Information System and the management of WSD’s conference portfolio. Adam holds a master’s degree in business administration from Carnegie Mellon University and a bachelor’s degree in economics and mathematics from Rutgers University.

Richard has enjoyed an extensive career as a consultant working primarily in the areas of performance improvement and strategy development in capital intensive industries.

Previously, Richard was a Strategy Principal Director with Accenture within the Natural Resources practice. Prior to that he was an Associate Director in the Resources practice of Arthur D. Little, Vice-President of Business Development for American Combustion and held a variety of positions with National Steel, including Director of Corporate Production Planning, Hot Rolled Product Manager, Director of Strategic Planning and Division Controller.

Richard holds an MBA from Wharton and a BS in Materials Science and Engineering from Cornell University.

Mary joined World Steel Dynamics in April 2023 as the VP Sales & Marketing.

In a newly created role, Mary’s is responsible for develop and implementing WSD’s marketing and sales strategy.

Prior to joining WSD, Mary spent 12 years as Fastmarkets as the Global Sales Director, Sponsorship and Advertising and spent close to 20 years at Thomas Publishing in various roles.

Mary brings over 20 years of sales experience to the WSD team.

Joe is no stranger to long-time WSD clients. He served a decade as a senior analyst working on many reports with the late Peter Marcus and founding partner Karlis M. Kirsis.

He began his more than 30-year career covering the steel industry for McGraw-Hill’s 33 Metal Producing magazine and later worked as managing editor at American Metal Market (AMM, now Fastmarkets) before joining S&P Global Platts in 2006.
At Platts Joe launched Steel Markets Daily, the company’s fastest-growing publication at the time. He played a key role in Platts’ foray into iron ore price benchmarking. In 2011, with Platts’ acquisition of Steel Business Briefing (SBB), Joe was named Global Editorial Director for Metals and oversaw the integration of the Platts and SBB news and pricing teams. He left Platts in 2019 after a stint as Metals News Director for the Americas.

Stanislav Zinchenko is the CEO of GMK Center, Chair of the Committee for Environment and Sustainable Development of the European Business Association, President of CSCMP Ukraine Roundtable. During the last four years, Stanislav has provided consulting services for Ukrainian iron & steel companies related to sustainability issues, supply chains, CAPEX policy, and market analysis.

Stanislav Zinchenko has 15-years of experience in consulting for manufacturing companies. He possesses expertise in operational management and supply chains as a team leader, consultant and analyst in international projects in the field of entrepreneurship, operational efficiency and logistics infrastructure. Stanislav has a MA in International Economics from Kyiv National Economic University.

Andrii has 15 years of experience in investment banking and commodities market analysis as Head of Research and Head of the Trading Department. Andrii graduated from the Production Management program in 2005. His expertise is in: global steel markets, oil & gas, financial markets, trade restrictions, and decarbonization policies. Andrii covers financial and strategic issues, cost management improvements, budgeting systems architecture, and audits for steel companies in consulting projects.

Since 2018 Andrii has been responsible for research of iron & steel market trends, digitalization, and decarbonization of iron & steel companies, as well as governmental tax, trade, and environmental policies.

In 2012 Andrii graduated from Donetsk National University (specialty – “Applied Statistics”). In 2016 he successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis in statistics. From 2012-2013 Mr. Glushchenko worked as a marketing analyst at the Energosteel Trading House – Ukraine. From 2013 to 2018 he was an investment analyst in a Ukrainian investment company covering steel, energy, machinery, and other sectors.

Richard has over 35 years experience as a strategy consultant to the Iron & Steel industry. He joined Beddows & Company, now part of Hatch, in 1989, and became a Director in 1999. He also worked as an industry expert for Deloitte Consulting, and has served as an independent consultant on issues of finance and strategy for a variety of public and private sector clients.

He has worked with clients in the Metals and Mining industries worldwide, with a focus on North and South America. He has managed and participated in a variety of consulting engagements encompassing corporate and business unit strategy development, new market and product planning, capital investment planning and project financing, and shareholder value enhancement. His clients have included mining companies, metals producers and processors, suppliers, customers, governments, banks, private equity and others with an interest in the strategic issues facing the industry.

Since founding Global Steel Solutions in 2002, Bob has utilized his knowledge and relationships to assist companies throughout the world to optimize their steel supply chains.  Bob is a trainer who relishes teaching his approach and methodologies to clients so they can repeat the successes year after year.

With over 40 years of steel and raw material experience, Bob is recognized as one of the preeminent experts on steel purchasing. Bob has maintained a laser focus on building knowledge and relationships in the steel industry from the start of his career as a scheduler in Ford Motor Company’s Steel Operations until today.
An innovative force in the industry, Bob developed the first automotive raw material resale program when he was Manager, Raw Material Purchasing at Chrysler Corporation.
Later, he rejoined Ford Motor as Global Director, Raw Materials Purchasing he established a re-sale program, and led the establishment of global raw material commodity teams in North and South America, Europe and Asia.

Senior executive with leadership experience in P&L management, operations management, strategic planning, business development, technology management and business restructuring.   Held senior level roles in both medium and large businesses with full P&L responsibility and exposure to a range of business segments including automotive and steel.    Proven success in complex, technical business environments and businesses undergoing significant and rapid change.   Excellent communication and relationship development skills with internal and external stakeholders.

Joseph J. Poveromo received his Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering in 1974 at the Center for Process Metallurgy, State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNYAB). Earlier he had received a BS degree in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Poly.

He then joined Bethlehem Steel’s Homer Research Laboratories where he advanced to the position of Research Consultant. In 1993 he established his consultancy, Raw Materials & Ironmaking Global Consulting. From 1993 through 2008 his principal client was the Quebec Cartier Mining Company, for whom he served as Director Technology-International. Currently, he consults for steel, iron ore, other natural resource, technology provider, financial and consultancy companies on a global basis.

Dr. Poveromo is a Distinguished Member of the Iron and Steel Society (now AIST) of AIME. He has received a number of Iron & Steel Society Awards including the T. L. Joseph Award in 1998 for his long-standing contributions to ironmaking technology. He is also a Special Member of the IIMA (International Iron Metallics Association).

Rick worked for a pipe and tube manufacturer from 1985 through 2006 in roles including subsidiary CEO, Vice President of Canadian Operations, Vice President of Investor Relations & Business Development, Vice President of Shared Services, Marketing Manager and Controller. Experience represents all key functions of running a business and includes accounting, marketing, supply chain, human resources, information technology, logistics, startups, acquisitions and divestitures, investor relations, strategy and expansion and overall business management. Rick has been part owner of Preston Pipe since 2007.

Rick has a BS in Business with an emphasis in accounting. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri. He has been in management roles since 1981.

Paul has been in multiple sectors of the pipe and tube industry since 1979. He started his pipe and tube career in distribution, moved to manufacturing in later years and has been part owner of Preston Pipe since 2007. While in the distribution business, time was spent on the purchasing/inventory management/supply chain side of the business before a switch to sales and site selection. While in manufacturing, focus was on business plan development, forecasting, international trade and sales issues.

Paul Vivian has a PhD in Economics with an emphasis on statistics. He is a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking, University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.

The steel industry was Peter’s passion, inspiration and never-ending endeavor. His unique style and personality were only matched by his prophetic vision for the industry’s ever-changing landscape. He played the field general of the “Economic Warfare” that symbolized the constant ups and downs of the steel price cycle, and he was always several steps ahead of the battle’s evolution. “Kill and Win” was his motto as he charged into his next report, prognosticating “Death Spirals,” “Volcanic Eruptions” and “Extreme Short-Ages.”

Equal to his passion for the industry was Peter’s love for its people. From senior executives to line workers, Peter genuinely wished success and prosperity for everyone he encountered in his travels around the world over the last 50+ years. He believed the steel industry was the fundamental building block for economic prosperity – the “engine” of the virtuous upward cycle that would ultimately benefit one and all; his words and actions embodied this belief.

Peter F. Marcus, managing partner of World Steel Dynamics Inc., was the founder of the World Steel Dynamics (WSD) information service. He was a steel industry economist, a consultant and a security analyst. He worked with steel companies the world over on a wide variety of assignments over the years including steel company and facility competitive assessments, merger and acquisition strategies, strategic positioning, public offerings and road show presentations. He also worked closely with investment banking groups and institutional equity and high yield investors.

Mr. Marcus graduated in 1960 with honors in economics from Cornell University and received an M.B.A. in investments and economics from New York University in 1965.

Mr. Marcus began his career on Wall Street in 1961 as a steel analyst with L. F. Rothschild & Co. He then joined Mitchell Hutchins & Co. in 1971. World Steel Dynamics was founded in 1975 as a division.

Karlis M. Kirsis, has researched the steel industry for more than 35 years, since 1978 in partnership with Peter Marcus. Karlis is responsible for coordinating WSD’s business, publishing and marketing operations. He oversees the research projects of its staff and authors his own studies. Karlis has an engineering degree from Northeastern University and a MBA from the Columbia Business School.
