GSIS is a web-based data platform that provides key information focused on critical elements of the global steel industry. The GSIS combines the breadth of World Steel Dynamics’ unique database with a suite of powerful interactive tools that allow users to mine and analyze information related to global industry production costs, supply/demand dynamics, production capacity and international steel trade, among others. The all-encompassing suite of “real time” data tools enable decision makers, analysts, and advisors to find the inflection points in the ever changing structure of the industry.

Key Features:

  • Customizable Cost Curve Analysis by product, date, plant location, cost component (labor, raw materials, energy, etc.) and more.
  • Monthly update of key cost drivers
  • “What if” sensitivity analysis capability
  • Dynamically generated “reference” plants
  • Historical “snapshot” comparisons
  • Customized geographic cost curves/rankings

World Cost Curve for Steel Sheet Producers

Trade Flow Analytics

The database will provide import and export volumes of steel and steelmaking raw materials for more than 60 major steel producing nations, collectively accounting for 97% of global steel output.  The database can be interrogated using WSD’s well proven interactive web based tools and the output downloaded to an Excel spreadsheet.

Plantfacts Capacity Database

Designed to provide detailed capacity information on a facility-by-facility basis and developed in partnership with the Boston Consulting Group. The system provides highly specific equipment parameters including capacity, dates of start-up and modernization along with various process and final product capabilities. The Plantfacts Database covers both upstream equipment (i.e. coking coal ovens, sintering and pelletizing plants, blast furnaces and DRI units) and downstream facilities (i.e. plate mills, wire rod mills, pickling and oiling lines, cold rolling mills and coating lines). As an add-on to WSD’s World Cost Curve products, users may view equipment detail for each of the Cost Curve facilities.
